How to choose an AI education tool
The tools that hold up are the ones that make the learner do the work. It is easy to build something that answers questions and feels impressive in a demonstration; the pedagogical question is whether the student is thinking or watching, and a tool that supplies finished answers quietly removes the practice that produces learning.
Look for whether it can be wrong safely. Good tools ask, hint, and let a wrong answer stand long enough to be examined. Tools that simply correct teach compliance with the tool.
Assessment claims deserve the most scepticism in this category, particularly AI-detection features. They produce false positives on second-language writers and on unusual but honest styles, and a false accusation costs far more than a missed one. Treat any such score as a prompt to have a conversation, never as evidence.
For schools across the region, language coverage is the practical filter. A tool that handles English well and Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Thai or Vietnamese poorly will work for one part of a classroom and quietly fail the rest.
