How to choose an AI healthcare tool
Regulatory status is the gate, and it comes before everything else on this page. A tool that informs a clinical decision is a medical device in most jurisdictions, and clearance is specific — to a named indication, a patient population, and often an imaging modality. Clearance for one use is not clearance for a neighbouring one, and marketing copy rarely makes the boundary clear.
Ask where the validation was done. Performance measured on one population does not transfer cleanly to another. Disease prevalence, imaging equipment, and demographics all shift the numbers. For deployment in Southeast Asia, a model validated entirely on North American or European cohorts is a question to resolve, not a detail.
Documentation and scribing tools sit in a different, lighter category because they do not decide anything. They still carry patient data, so processing location, retention, and whether recordings train future models are the terms that matter.
Keep the framing assistive throughout. The tools that survive contact with clinical practice are the ones that surface something for a clinician to confirm, and that fail visibly rather than silently.
