Viettel AI is the data and AI services centre of Vietnam's military-owned Viettel Group, selling Vietnamese speech, OCR, eKYC, virtual-assistant and analytics services to government and enterprise. It also trains VAI language models on NVIDIA's Nemotron 3 Super architecture and sells access to them through a Model Hub subscription.

Viettel AI in Southeast Asia
Viettel's programme is the clearest statement of sovereign-AI intent in Vietnam, because it owns the whole stack rather than renting it. The AI unit sits inside the state-owned telecom group, VT-Super-120B is trained on domestic data, and since February 2026 Viettel has run Vietnam's first NVIDIA DGX B200, later scaling to a 22-system cluster. The in-country cluster is regionally significant. Most ASEAN sovereign-model efforts rent frontier compute abroad; owning the hardware changes the kinds of commitments a government can make. The flip side is that this is a state-enterprise programme, so there is no self-serve access and the published evidence is largely Viettel's own.
Viettel AI is a credible domestic supplier for Vietnamese public bodies and large firms: a long list of production services, government customers, its own DGX B200 compute and Vietnamese models tuned for administrative and legal work. A self-serve Model Hub with published dong prices makes it easier to try than its state-programme image suggests.
The model claims are hard to check from outside. Scores come from a leaderboard that takes submitted predictions, and no weights are published. Best for organisations that need Vietnamese data handled by a domestic operator; others should compare open models first.
What we found
Viettel AI is the data and artificial-intelligence services centre of Viettel, Vietnam's military-owned telecoms and industrial group. Its own history page traces it to the Viettel Cyberspace Center, set up in 2014, which launched a Viettel AI Platform website in 2018 and took the Viettel AI name in 2023. Most of what it sells is applied AI for government and large organisations: Vietnamese text-to-speech and speech-to-text, OCR, eKYC identity checks, number-plate recognition, content moderation, the Cyberbot virtual-assistant platform, data analytics and digital twins. Its customer list names the Party Central Office, the National Assembly Office, several ministries and the Supreme People's Court.
The language-model work is newer. On 6 February 2026 Viettel switched on Vietnam's first nationally owned NVIDIA DGX B200 system at its Hoa Lac technical centre, operated by Viettel AI. In late May it announced VT-Super-120B-A12B, a 120-billion-parameter Vietnamese model built on NVIDIA's open Nemotron 3 Super architecture, and in July it reported early results from VAI-LLM, developed with NVIDIA on the same architecture. In September it put a legal model, VAI-LEGAL-1.3, into testing with more than 1,000 users on its My Agent assistant platform.
Benchmark claims rest on VMLU, a Vietnamese leaderboard that accepts submitted predictions. Read on 19 October 2026, its fine-tuned table placed VAI-LLM-v1.6+ first at 90.04 and the VT-Super-based VAI-LLM-v1.5 sixth at 85.47. Neither model is published on Hugging Face, so outsiders cannot reproduce the scores, and Viettel describes its own legal-model results only as internal evaluations.
Access is partly self-serve. The pricing page sells Model Hub subscriptions from 240,000 to 4,460,000 dong a month, with all VAI models included from the 480,000-dong Plus tier, and a Code Assistant from 430,000 dong; other services are quoted. For organisations that must keep Vietnamese data with a domestic operator it is a serious option; for anyone else, open models are easier to evaluate.
