What we found
Maritaca AI builds Sabiá, a family of large language models specialised in Brazilian Portuguese and Brazilian knowledge — law, exams, public data and culture. The current models are Sabiá 4 Thinking, a reasoning model with a million-token context launched in June 2026, Sabiá 4 and the fast, cheap Sabiazinho 4, both with 128,000-token contexts. They are available through a chat app and an OpenAI-compatible API, with optional inference run entirely in a São Paulo data centre for data-residency needs, built-in web search, and, since July 2026, Data Ocean, which connects the models to Brazilian public databases from the Central Bank, IBGE, the securities regulator and the electoral court. API prompts are discarded and never used for training, but there are no open weights, on-premises option or fine-tuning. Maritaca publishes Brazilian benchmarks such as OAB-Bench and BLUEX; on its own tables Sabiá 4 Thinking roughly matches frontier models on Brazilian tasks, scoring 90.1 per cent on the bar-exam judge test against 91.6 per cent for GPT-5.4, and leads only some legal-drafting tests.
Maritaca Inteligência Artificial Ltda. was registered in November 2022 in Itapira, São Paulo state, and is led by founder and chief executive Rodrigo Nogueira, working with researchers from the University of Campinas. Press reports say it received $1 million from Google and that the legal-information company Jusbrasil took a stake of more than 25 per cent in 2024.

API prices are per million tokens: Sabiazinho 4 costs R$1 in and R$4 out, about US$0.19 and US$0.78; Sabiá 4 R$5 and R$20; and Sabiá 4 Thinking R$5 and R$40. Brazil-only inference costs 30 per cent more, while cached input, night-time use and batch processing are discounted. Enterprise contracts add SLAs, data-processing agreements and priority support.
