Google deprecated the whole family: Firebase access closed in June 2026, and the Gemini API endpoints shut down on August 17, 2026, with gemini-3.1-flash-image (Nano Banana 2) the recommended replacement. On pure output the Imagen 4 tiers still hold up — strong photorealism, SynthID watermarking, Vertex AI governance — and some developers publicly prefer its portrait consistency to Nano Banana's.
