Leo is the most convenient way to get private, in-context help inside Brave: no account on the free tier, chats kept only on the device, a free model list that includes Claude Haiku 4.5, and Bring Your Own Model for local or paid endpoints. The privacy promises are Brave's own and unaudited, but they are specific and consistent across its pages.
Premium at $14.99 a month buys larger models such as Claude Opus 5.5 and higher limits. Agentic browsing is still a Nightly experiment and there is no API, so treat Leo as a browser feature rather than a research platform.

It summarises pages, PDFs and Google Docs, answers questions with help from Brave Search, translates and drafts text, and can work across several open tabs. Brave Software, Inc. of San Francisco released it to Nightly testers in August 2023 and to all desktop users that November, when Leo Premium launched at $15 a month.
Privacy is the design centre, at least as Brave describes it. The free tier needs no account. Brave says it does not keep conversations after a response is generated, does not collect identifiers such as IP addresses, and does not use chats for training; history lives only on the device and can be switched off. Premium requires an account, but Brave says the subscription cannot be linked to usage. Since June 2025 Brave says it hosts every model, Claude included, on its own infrastructure; earlier versions of this page described proxying through AWS Bedrock. These are vendor statements rather than audited ones.
The model menu changes often, and the Leo landing page itself still lists an older line-up. Brave's help centre currently gives free users Qwen 3.6 35B, GPT 6 Luna, Nemotron Nano 3 30B, GLM 4.7 Flash and Claude Haiku 4.5. Premium adds Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5, DeepSeek v3.2, Kimi K2.5, Mistral Large 3, Grok 4.7, GPT 5.6 Terra and Qwen 3.8 Flash Next, with higher rate limits, for $14.99 a month or $149.99 a year after a 7-day trial. Bring Your Own Model connects a local model or a paid endpoint, including an OpenAI API key.
Agentic AI browsing exists only as an experiment in Brave Nightly, running in an isolated profile with a second model checking each action. There is no developer API. For Brave users who want quick, private help with the page in front of them, Leo is a sensible default; anyone needing deep research or automation will want a dedicated assistant.
