Zhida's differentiator is traceability. Answers point to specific Zhihu contributors and posts rather than anonymous web pages, and a contributor's body of work can be queried as its own knowledge base, which makes a citation easy to check. Zhihu Zhida (知乎直答) is the AI search layer of Zhihu, the Chinese question-and-answer community. Zhihu trialled AI search in March 2024, launched Zhida as a standalone PC product in June 2024 and added a Zhida tab to its app that August. In October 2024 came Professional Search, which Zhihu's annual results say integrates more than 50 million Chinese and English academic articles from a licensed database, with file uploads. In February 2025 Zhida connected the full DeepSeek-R1 model and added a personal knowledge base for uploaded pages and documents.
The feature worth paying attention to is attribution. A March 2025 release made answers traceable to the specific Zhihu contributors they draw on, let users treat any contributor's body of work as a knowledge base to question, and merged general and professional search into one mode. Zhihu presents this as a way to cut hallucinated sourcing, and it does make a citation easier to check, because it points at a named person's post rather than an anonymous web page. Earlier versions of this page said contributors could not be referenced directly; Zhihu's chairman described exactly that feature. The limit: an answer is only as good as Zhihu's coverage of the topic.
Zhihu reports usage rather than revenue for Zhida. Chairman Zhou Yuan told the March 2025 earnings call that monthly active users had grown from the millions to the tens of millions over the previous six months, and in its August 2026 interim report Zhihu described Zhida as more deeply integrated into the main Zhihu search, a navigational entry point to community content rather than a substitute for it. Growth multiples quoted elsewhere could not be traced to Zhihu's filings.
No paid plan or public API is published, and using it requires signing in to a Zhihu account. Interface and content are overwhelmingly Chinese. For researchers who read Chinese and want answers tied to identifiable sources, it is one of the more checkable AI search tools available; for English-language work it adds little.
