MiMo has gone from a small 7B experiment to one of the strongest open-weight model families in eighteen months: V2.6-Pro ties for top open-weight intelligence on Artificial Analysis, both V2.6 models are omnimodal with a million-token context, and the weights are MIT-licensed. Xiaomi's API is among the cheapest available, and its international service runs from Singapore. Benchmark claims beyond Artificial Analysis are Xiaomi's own, and the fast release cadence means API models are deprecated quickly. A strong pick for developers wanting capable open models or a low-cost API; plan for regular model upgrades.
What we found
MiMo is Xiaomi's family of large language and multimodal models. It began in April 2025 with MiMo-7B, a small reasoning model, and grew through MiMo-VL for vision, MiMo-Audio, MiMo-Embodied for robotics and the MiMo-V2-Flash mixture-of-experts model in December 2025, to the V2.5 series in April 2026 and the V2.6 series on 22 September 2026. MiMo-V2.6-Pro has 1.02 trillion parameters with 42 billion active per token, and V2.6-Flash 309 billion with 15 billion active; both handle text, images, video and audio with a million-token context. Xiaomi has released the weights under the MIT licence on Hugging Face, along with its reinforcement-learning code and training environments, while most of its code repositories use Apache 2.0. Artificial Analysis rates MiMo-V2.6-Pro joint-highest in intelligence among open-weight models, alongside GLM-5.3; Xiaomi's own blog claims it is the strongest outright. The models are available through MiMo Studio, MiMo Code, a desktop app, Xiaomi's API platform and OpenRouter.
The international service is operated by Xiaomi Technologies Singapore Pte. Ltd., while Xiaomi Corporation is based in Beijing. Xiaomi says its September reinforcement-learning runs took under six days and cost about $0.85 million and $2.62 million.
The weights are free to download and self-host. On Xiaomi's API, overseas prices per million tokens are $0.14 input and $0.28 output for V2.6-Flash and $0.435 and $0.87 for V2.6-Pro, with cached input far cheaper, batch jobs at half price and text-to-speech free for a limited time; a faster UltraSpeed version of Pro costs ten times as much. A Token Plan subscription runs from $6 a month for Lite to $100 for Max, with 12% off for annual billing or a first purchase and cheaper usage overnight Beijing time. The V2.5 models leave the API on 21 October 2026.
