Zhipu AI's GLM series has become one of the strongest value plays in the LLM market: recent GLM-4.x and GLM-5 models are competitive on coding and general reasoning, there are genuinely free Flash tiers, and the international z.ai endpoint ships an OpenAI-compatible API with English documentation, so dropping it into Cursor or existing tooling is straightforward. For cost-sensitive developers it undercuts most Western frontier APIs by a wide margin.
The honest caveats are governance and stability, not raw capability.
