Topaz remains a strong pick for recovering detail from old scans, small images and archival footage, and the desktop apps keep client material on your own machine. Prices are published plainly: $149 a year for Gigapixel up to $399 for the Studio bundle, with an image API from $50 a month.
Weigh three things. Everything is a subscription now, with no trial beyond a two-day refund window. Commercial use on personal plans stops at organisations with $1 million in revenue. And Adobe owns the company since September 2026; it promises standalone apps, but long-term pricing is now Adobe's call.
What we found
Topaz Labs makes AI software that improves photos and video you already have rather than generating new imagery: Gigapixel enlarges images up to 16 times their pixel count, Topaz Photo removes noise and blur and recovers faces, and Topaz Video upscales footage, interpolates frames and converts SDR to HDR. The desktop apps render on your own GPU; Topaz for Web and Topaz for Mobile render in the cloud. The Dallas company has been building image software for about twenty years, but its AI line began with A.I. Gigapixel in August 2018, which is the date this page uses.
Two changes matter. First, Topaz stopped selling perpetual licences on 3 October 2025. Existing owners keep what they bought, but new purchases and upgrades are subscriptions. Second, Adobe agreed to buy the company in June 2026 and completed the deal on 23 September 2026. Adobe says Topaz stays a standalone brand with its apps sold separately, while its models are already appearing in Firefly and Photoshop.
Pricing is published and layered. Gigapixel costs $149 a year, Photo $199 and Video $299; on an annual commitment billed monthly they are $19, $25 and $39, and month-to-month $29, $39 and $59. Topaz Studio bundles the desktop, browser and iPhone apps for $399 a year with 300 cloud video credits a month that expire unused. Personal plans allow commercial use only for organisations under $1 million in annual revenue; Studio Pro, at $799 a year, adds full commercial rights and seat management. There is no free trial in the current apps, only a two-day refund window, so test inside it.
Developers now have an image API, from $50 a month for 500 credits or $240 for 3,000; a pay-as-you-go tier is listed as coming soon. On Trustpilot Topaz scored 3.7 from 56,610 reviews, read 14 October 2026. For restoring scans and archival footage locally it remains a leading option; the price is a permanent subscription.
