Sidekick has become a genuinely useful part of running a Shopify store: it can answer sales questions with real queries, draft content, build automations and even generate custom apps, always asking for approval before changing anything. It costs nothing extra, but its best features — app generation and the proactive Pulse suggestions — depend on higher plans or early access. Independent evaluations are thin. Merchants should switch it on; it is not a reason to choose Shopify over another platform.
What we found
Sidekick is the AI assistant built into Shopify's admin. Introduced in early access in July 2023, it answers questions about a store, analyses sales by writing ShopifyQL queries and exporting data, drafts product descriptions and marketing content, builds Shopify Flow automations from prompts, works with third-party apps such as Klaviyo and Judge.me, and on higher plans generates custom apps; Shopify said merchants had built more than 36,000 such apps by the second quarter of 2026. With the Spring '26 Edition it gained app extensions from more than 15 partners, and a new Canvas surface lets merchants design a store with Sidekick. It runs on desktop, in the Shopify app and on Apple Watch, adapting to the store's language. It cannot change a store without the merchant's approval and is not available in a mobile browser. Sidekick Pulse, which proactively suggests actions on the admin home page, is still in early access for some merchants.
Shopify says daily active merchants using Sidekick were up 3.6 times year on year in the second quarter of 2026, with nearly 34 million conversations. Shopify Inc. is based in Ottawa, and merchants in Asia-Pacific, including Singapore, contract with Shopify Commerce Singapore; Shopify runs localised sites for Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Sidekick has no separate fee: it is included with paid Shopify plans, but its features and usage limits vary by plan, and app generation needs the Grow, Advanced or Plus plan. Shopify's Singapore pricing page lists Basic from SGD 29 a month billed yearly, Grow SGD 99, Advanced SGD 399 and Plus from USD 2,300 a month, with a three-day trial and then SGD 1 a month for three months as a promotion.
For Shopify merchants it is a useful, no-extra-cost assistant for analysis, content and automation; published reviews of it so far come mainly from agencies and app vendors rather than independent testers.
