There is nothing to buy. Fintool was a capable agent for filings-heavy equity research, but Microsoft acquired the company in April 2026, the team moved into the Office Product Group, and fintool.com now redirects to Microsoft 365.
Teams that want this job done today should look at the finance skills and data connectors in Copilot for Excel, or at standalone research tools, and judge them on their own merits: Microsoft has not said Fintool's technology is inside them. Not investment advice.
What we found
Fintool can no longer be bought. The San Francisco start-up, a Y Combinator Winter 2023 company built by Nicolas Bustamante and Edouard Godfrey, replaced its homepage with a notice headed "Microsoft has acquired Fintool" between two Wayback Machine captures on 17 April 2026, US time. We found no Microsoft press release or blog post about the deal, and the terms were not disclosed. The notice stayed up until at least 30 April; by 17 May every path on fintool.com redirected permanently to the Microsoft 365 page, where it still lands today.
The notice, signed by Nicolas Bustamante as chief executive, is the main record of what the product was. It describes agents that read earnings calls and filings for professional investors at hedge funds, asset managers and investment banks, and a January 2026 V5 release in which an agent worked in the background to build a DCF model in Excel, an earnings deck in PowerPoint or a research memo in Word. The team, it says, joined Microsoft's Office Product Group to bring its "expertise and IP" to Microsoft 365. Fintool's own pages claimed 98% on the FinanceBench test against 65% for GPT-5; that is a vendor figure.
It was sold through sales rather than self-serve. The last archived pricing page, from January 2026, listed a Regular plan with a free trial and an Enterprise plan with API access and private-data integration, and no prices for either. It left no meaningful footprint on G2, Capterra or Trustpilot.
What Microsoft has shipped since is adjacent. A June 2026 Microsoft 365 blog post by Brian Jones, who leads Excel and is named in the Fintool notice, introduced finance skills in Copilot for Excel, such as building a DCF, and connectors to CB Insights, Daloopa, FactSet, Morningstar, PitchBook and S&P Global data. It does not mention Fintool, so calling those features Fintool technology would be inference. This entry is a record, not a recommendation.
