Dragon Copilot is the most widely deployed ambient documentation tool, backed by Nuance's long history in medical speech and Microsoft's reach, and it now combines ambient notes with dictation, Epic integration and nursing and radiology versions. Its evidence is largely Microsoft's own — time saved, burnout surveys — and the one peer-reviewed study we found was a small simulation that still saw notes needing edits. Pricing is unpublished and changed in 2026 to per-user licences plus per-encounter fees, and it is not available anywhere in Asia-Pacific yet. A strong option for large health systems in supported countries; insist on a pilot measuring your own time savings.
What we found
Microsoft Dragon Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant for clinical documentation, combining the ambient note-taking of Nuance's DAX Copilot with the voice dictation of Dragon Medical One. Nuance launched DAX in February 2020, Microsoft completed its $18.8 billion purchase of Nuance in March 2022, and in March 2025 the two products were merged and relaunched as Dragon Copilot. It listens to the conversation between clinician and patient, including multi-party and multilingual conversations, and drafts a structured note for review, along with referral letters, after-visit summaries and coding suggestions. Microsoft says it captures conversations in 58 languages and writes notes in each country's primary language. It runs on the web, mobile and desktop and inside Epic, with versions for physicians, for nurses capturing flowsheet data through Epic Rover in the US, and for radiologists as a PowerScribe One companion in US preview. Partner apps and agents are available through Microsoft Marketplace, and Microsoft names Intermountain Health, Mercy, Cooper University Health Care and the University of Rochester Medical Center as customers.
Microsoft says more than 100,000 clinicians rely on Dragon Copilot and that it saves about five minutes per encounter, and a Microsoft survey of 879 clinicians in 2024 reported less burnout. A small peer-reviewed study in Surgical Endoscopy by clinicians at Cooper University Health Care scored its notes highly across 25 simulated inpatient scenarios but found they still needed basic editing.
For physicians it is available in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland; the nursing version is US-only, and no Asia-Pacific country is listed.
Microsoft publishes no price. Dragon Copilot is sold to healthcare organisations through Microsoft and its partners, and from May 2026 Microsoft ended its separate Physician Practice offer in favour of a single per-user licence at a reduced price plus consumption fees per encounter. Reseller prices quoted online predate that change.
It suits health systems already on Microsoft and Epic in supported countries.
