Scinapse's field-level ranking is genuinely useful: instead of the most-cited papers in all of science, it shows what matters inside your cluster of research, and its expert finder applies the same logic to people. The free plan is enough for discovery; paid plans from $23 a month (billed annually) add trend analysis, author analytics and AI mini-reviews.
Its performance claims come from the company, and the corpus leans on open sources such as OpenAlex. Use it beside a full institutional database rather than instead of one.
What we found
Scinapse is an academic search and research-analytics service run by Pluto Labs, a Seoul company. Chief executive Junseon Yoo told DailyPharm in August 2026 that the project began in 2017, out of frustration with how long literature searches took, and that the company was incorporated in 2019; the scinapse.io site was already live by late 2018. The current product was rebuilt through 2023 betas and reached version 2.0 in January 2024.
Its distinguishing idea is ranking within a field rather than across all of science. Scinapse clusters papers by how they cite one another, then measures influence inside that cluster, so a search surfaces the papers and researchers that matter in your area rather than the most-cited work overall. Pluto Labs says the corpus exceeds 250 million papers, drawn from OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, PubMed Central, the retired Microsoft Academic Graph and its own crawler, with more than 99% coverage of SCIE journals. Earlier versions of this page cited a "zero hallucination guarantee"; no current Scinapse page makes that promise, and the claim has been removed.
Pricing is published. The free plan covers impact-ranked paper search, collections, history, citation export and basic paper, author and journal pages. Basic costs $23 a month billed annually or $29 monthly and adds field-level citation analysis, author analytics, multi-filter search and AI mini-reviews. Pro, at $36 or $45, adds citation network maps, saved reviews and five AI Smart Query credits every four hours; Max, at $52 or $65, raises that to 25.
The newer push is Scinapse AI, released in October 2025, which moves from search toward suggesting research topics and hypotheses. Pluto Labs reports two paid Korean institutional contracts within three months, adoption at POSTECH and a KAIST pilot. A July 2025 press release claimed its idea generation beat larger models in blind tests, but those tests were judged by other AI models and published by the company. Treat it as a strong second engine beside Scopus or Web of Science.
