Quark (夸克) is Alibaba's AI app for the China market, combining AI search, a Qwen assistant, a desktop AI browser, a cloud drive, a scanner and PDF tools. Since December 2025 it belongs to Alibaba's Qwen consumer business group, with the Qwen App as the flagship chatbot. 夸克是阿里旗下的 AI 应用，内置千问大模型。

Quark is a capable, mostly free Qwen-powered everything-app for Chinese students and office workers: AI search, a desktop AI browser that summarises and compares tabs, PPT and PDF tools, a scanner and a large cloud drive. Since Alibaba's December 2025 reshuffle it plays second fiddle to the Qwen App as a chatbot, and the AI glasses that once carried its name now carry Qwen's.
The paid layer is the cloud-drive SVIP, and its auto-renewal draws complaints. For ASEAN and global readers it remains Chinese-only, with no overseas edition and PRC data handling. Worth knowing for Chinese-reading users; not a tool most others can deploy.
What we found
Quark (夸克) began in 2016 as a minimalist, ad-free mobile browser from Alibaba's UC team and is now sold as Alibaba's "AI flagship app": search, an assistant, a desktop AI browser, a cloud drive, a scanner, PDF tools and a novel reader. It is operated by 广州市动悦信息技术有限公司, a Guangzhou company inside Alibaba. Since December 2025 it has sat in Alibaba's new 千问 (Qwen) consumer business group alongside the Qwen App, UC and Alibaba's AI hardware, so the flagship chatbot role now belongs to the Qwen App and Quark carries the search, browser and productivity side.
The AI underneath is Qwen throughout. The assistant inside Quark is branded 千问助手, and the August 2026 desktop release upgraded the built-in model to Qwen 3.8 Max. Recent additions are practical: summarising and comparing several open tabs, a screen-reading mode that asks and answers questions about what is on screen, selected-text shortcuts, and Skills that let agents such as Qwen operate Quark's cloud drive and scanner by instruction. Quark's gaokao service, which Alibaba says has served 160 million person-times over seven years, remains its best-known student feature. The AI glasses first sold under the Quark name were relaunched as Qwen glasses in April 2026.
Alibaba's FY2025 annual report put Quark above 200 million monthly active users; that is the company's own figure, and third-party trackers have published much lower ones. On the China App Store the app scored 4.3 from 654,312 ratings when read on 14 October 2026.
Core AI features are free. The paid layer is the 夸克网盘 SVIP cloud-drive membership, listed at ¥300 a year and sold on the App Store at ¥20 to ¥25 a month on auto-renewal, a renewal that some App Store reviewers say caught them out after a cheap first month. For ASEAN readers the position is unchanged: the interface is Chinese-only, there is no overseas edition, and accounts and data sit under PRC rules. It is a product to understand rather than one most teams can adopt.
