Paperguide puts literature search, a reference manager, data extraction, a research agent and an AI writer in one workspace, and its newer Systematic Review module adds dual-reviewer PRISMA screening where the AI prepares evidence but does not decide. The free plan is usable, and Plus at $19 a month ($12 billed yearly) is fair for students.
Its 200M-paper index and user numbers are vendor claims, and it lacks the long institutional record of established reference managers. A good all-in-one choice for students and small teams; check its search results against a dedicated discovery tool when completeness matters.
What we found
Paperguide started life as ChatWithPDF, a tool for asking questions of long PDFs that launched in 2023. In 2024 the team announced a rebrand to Paperguide after finding that students and researchers made up most of its users, and moved to a new domain. Its terms of service are governed by Georgia law and give a copyright-notice address for Keevs Health Inc in Alpharetta, Georgia, with Mallikarjun Reddy Gaddam as the designated agent; the site does not otherwise name the operating company.
The product has kept growing up. It now pitches itself as an AI-native platform for scientific research and evidence synthesis rather than a student helper. AI Search answers a plain-language question from what Paperguide says is an index of more than 200 million papers, linking each claim to its source. Around it sit a reference manager that imports from Zotero and Mendeley, Extract Data for pulling details from many papers into a cited table, a Research Agent, an AI writer, a plagiarism checker, and an MCP server for connecting AI assistants. The newest addition is Systematic Review, which runs a PRISMA-style review with two reviewers screening independently; Paperguide stresses that the AI prepares cited evidence for each criterion and never makes the inclusion decision.
Pricing is per seat. The free plan gives 2,000 AI credits a month with capped searches and small extraction tables. Plus is 19 dollars a month, or 12 dollars billed yearly, and allows reviews of up to 1,000 papers. Pro is 49 dollars, or 29 yearly, with 50,000 credits; Evidence Teams, at 149 dollars or 89 yearly, adds dual-reviewer screening. Enterprise is custom.
The million-plus researcher figure on the homepage is Paperguide's own claim, and it has nothing like the institutional track record of Zotero or EndNote. It suits students and small research teams who want search, references, extraction and drafting in one workspace, and teams wanting structured systematic-review tooling at a lower price than specialist platforms.
