Microsoft Copilot in Southeast Asia
Ships wherever Microsoft 365 operates, with regional data-residency options via Microsoft cloud — attractive for ASEAN enterprises with PDPA/data-sovereignty needs. Free consumer Copilot is broadly available across the region.
Copilot is the AI most office workers meet first, because it already sits inside Windows, Outlook, Word and Teams. The licensed business version grounds answers in a company's own mail, files and meetings through Work IQ, and since September 2026 lets users pick Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Sol or their successors instead of relying on Auto.
The catch is cost structure. The $30 add-on sits on top of a Microsoft 365 licence, and the most capable agent work now runs on metered Copilot Credits, so finance teams need a spending policy before rollout. Consumer users report thin free limits and uneven accuracy. For organisations standardised on Microsoft 365 it is still the first assistant to trial.
What we found
Microsoft Copilot is now two products sold under one name. The consumer assistant lives at copilot.microsoft.com, in Windows, Edge and the mobile apps, and is free within limits Microsoft does not publish; its own FAQ says that when a user reaches one, the choice is to upgrade or come back later. Paid individual use comes bundled with Microsoft 365: Personal at $9.99 a month, Premium at $19.99 for up to six people (AI for the account holder only), and a monthly-only Pro plan at $99.99 with the highest limits. The old Copilot Pro store page now redirects to Premium.
For organisations, Copilot Chat is included with eligible Microsoft 365 work plans, and the Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on lists at $30 per user per month on annual billing, or from $18 for businesses of up to 300 users under a promotion that runs to 31 December 2026. On 25 September 2026 Microsoft split its pricing in two: everyday work stays inside the per-user licence, with usage limits, while long-running agent work such as Cowork is billed in usage-based Copilot Credits that stay switched off until an admin sets a spending policy.
Model choice widened the same month. Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol arrived on 22 September, and GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Sonnet 5.5 followed on 30 September. Press reports describe a Grok preview for Frontier-programme tenants, off by default and not offered in the EU or UK.
Adoption is large. Microsoft told investors in July 2026 that it had passed 30 million paid seats, and in April that Accenture alone held over 740,000; it says weekly engagement is on par with Outlook and Teams. Consumer sentiment is far worse: Trustpilot showed 1.5 out of 5 from 494 reviews on an unclaimed profile, read 19 October 2026, and most of the roughly 20 recent reviews we read complained of wrong answers or newly tightened usage limits.
