Linear has turned its tracker into a place where agents do work: Linear Agent drafts issues and updates from conversations, Triage Intelligence routes incoming work, Loops run recurring agent tasks, and coding sessions take an issue to a reviewable pull request in a cloud sandbox. Because it all runs on the team's own issues, history and code, the context is already there.
The pricing story has changed. The agent is on every plan, including Free, but coding sessions and Loops are metered from prepaid credits at model cost plus sandbox time, so heavy use needs a budget and the new spend limits. Best for engineering teams already committed to Linear.
What we found
Linear AI is the set of AI features inside Linear, the issue tracker and project-planning tool built by Linear Orbit, Inc. of San Francisco. Linear's first visible AI feature was Similar Issues, which uses language models and embeddings to flag likely duplicates as an issue is written; a November 2023 post says it came out of an internal AI team formed that summer. The AI has since grown into something much larger than duplicate detection.
Linear Agent, launched in early 2026, plans and coordinates work: it creates issues from Slack or Teams conversations, drafts project updates, suggests what belongs in the next cycle and can save useful conversations as reusable skills. Triage Intelligence suggests assignees, teams, labels and related issues, and Loops run agent work on a schedule or when issues match set criteria. On 11 June 2026 Linear added coding sessions: assign an issue to Linear Agent and it writes code in a cloud sandbox using Claude Code or Codex, then opens a pull request for review. Linear says it resolves roughly 30% of its own incoming bug reports this way, mostly on the first pass, which is the vendor's figure.
Earlier versions of this page said all of this came at no extra charge, which is no longer true. The free plan includes the agent platform and Linear Agent, and Business at $16 per user a month billed yearly adds Triage Intelligence, Loops and Code Intelligence. But coding sessions and Loops draw on a prepaid AI-credit balance: coding sessions pass through model token costs with no markup plus $0.25 per 20-minute sandbox block, and Loops typically cost $0.07 to $0.20 a run. Admins can set spend limits by workspace, user or loop.
Linear passed $100 million in annual recurring revenue in August 2026, by its own account. The AI is best for engineering teams already working in Linear; teams new to it are really judging the tracker first.
