Komo is back to being an AI search engine after a turbulent 2026 in which komo.ai became a B2B sales tool and then a waitlist. The current version answers with sources, lets you focus on academic, news, social or video results, and on paid plans adds deep research, people search and premium models such as GPT-5.6, Claude, Gemini and Grok. The free plan — 25 credits a day with a sign-in — is enough to try it; Pro is $20 a month ($17 annually) and Max $200. It is a smaller player than Perplexity, and the churn is itself a caution: three public positionings in a year. We also found no current privacy policy or terms page and no mobile apps, so the ad-free, privacy-first reputation of the earlier search engine can't be assumed. A lightweight option to try for free; not yet one to trust with sensitive work.
What we found
Komo is an AI search engine again. After a stretch in 2026 when komo.ai showed first a B2B "AI Revenue Engine" and then, in August, only a waitlist for "The Self-Driving Business", the homepage returned to search by early September: it now reads "Komo — AI Search Engine", promising to search the web and answer with sources. The self-driving-business waitlist moved to a separate beta address. Buyers should weigh that churn — three public positionings in a year — before building a workflow around it.
The current product is a conventional answer engine with some distinctive touches. You pick a focus — the whole web, academic sources, news, social or video — and a model, with a fast default and, on paid plans, premium models including GPT-5.6, Claude, Gemini and Grok. Deep research and a people-search mode are paid features. You can attach PDF, text, markdown or CSV files to a question once signed in, and a new feature called Firsthand offers paid answers from people who were actually there, with payouts to those who answer. Searches are kept in a library, and a referral programme offers shareable links.
Pricing is published and credit-based. The free plan gives 25 credits a day with a sign-in and no card, covering the fast model and every focus mode. Komo Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 billed annually, for 2,000 credits a month; Komo Max is $200, or $170 annually, for 25,000. Extra credits cost $5 for 500 or $20 for 2,500.
What we could not confirm matters too. We found no current privacy policy or terms page on komo.ai, so the ad-free, privacy-first reputation of the 2023-2025 search engine can't be assumed for this version, and we found no Komo apps in the major app stores. As a lightweight alternative to Perplexity it is worth a try on the free plan; for anything sensitive, wait for published terms.
