Overview
Huawei Cloud's AI coding agent, sold in China as 码道 and internationally as CodeArts Agent, succeeds the 2023 CodeArts Snap plugin. It runs as an AI IDE, CLI/TUI and VS Code and JetBrains plugins on GLM-5.2, Huawei's OpenPangu-2.0 models and a HarmonyOS-tuned variant, with spec-driven development, large-repo indexing and review and test agents. Paid plans launched on 30 May 2026.

CodeArts Agent (码道) is Huawei Cloud's rebuilt coding agent, now on sale with personal, enterprise and international plans. It goes beyond completion to spec-driven development, repository-scale indexing and a team of review, fix and unit-test agents, with an ArkTS-tuned model for HarmonyOS work. The main model is Zhipu's GLM-5.2, with Huawei's own OpenPangu models alongside.
Independent reviews are thin: the strongest outside signal is a CAICT rating Huawei itself reports. Best fit is teams on Huawei Cloud or building for HarmonyOS; others should trial the free tier against Copilot or Cursor before paying.
What we found
CodeArts Agent, sold in China as 码道, is Huawei Cloud's AI coding agent and the successor to CodeArts Snap. Snap opened to invited testers in February 2023 as a plugin built on the Pangu-Coder model; its old product page now returns a 404. The 码道 relaunch entered public beta on 26 February 2026 and went on sale on 30 May 2026, so it is no longer the beta product earlier versions of this page described.
The pitch has shifted from line completion to whole-project work. Huawei ships an AI IDE, a CLI and terminal client, and VS Code and JetBrains plugins, with macOS plugin support added in September. Headline features are spec-driven development, which turns intent into requirements, design and tasks; cloud codebase indexing for large repositories; and an "Agent Team" of review, fix and unit-test agents. A HarmonyOS-tuned model and a dedicated HarmonyOS agent target ArkTS developers.
Despite the Pangu branding of its predecessor, the China site lists Zhipu's GLM-5.2 as the main model, alongside Huawei's OpenPangu-2.0 Flash and Pro, added in August, and the ArkTS variant. The international page lists only GLM-5.2 and GLM-5.1.
Pricing in China is credit-based: a free tier with 500 credits a month, then ¥98, ¥198 and ¥498 monthly plans, and an enterprise edition at ¥198 per seat. The international site sells a Free Edition, Basic at US$20 per seat a month and Professional at US$60, with SSO, model management and custom models reserved for Professional. For ASEAN teams, that international route is the one to evaluate.
On outside validation, Huawei says the code agent received the top 4+ rating in a July 2025 CAICT evaluation of AI testing tools, one of three firms to do so. That is a vendor's account of a government-affiliated assessment, not an independent review. Best fit remains teams already on Huawei Cloud or building HarmonyOS apps; anyone else should trial the free tier against tools they already use.
