That part is straightforward enough.
What's less reassuring: the site has no blog or changelog at all, its most recent dated text is an October 2025 fulfilment policy under the name "EP Vibes", and the company's GitHub organisation has never published a repository. None of that means the product is dead — it isn't — but it reads like a small team that has moved on to other things while the subscription billing keeps running in the background.
That matters more now than it did in 2022, because ChatGPT, Claude, and NotebookLM all do the highlight-and-explain trick today, plus considerably more, for users who already pay for one of them anyway. Explainpaper's context-aware explanations are still a nice touch for a first pass through a dense paper, but there's little reason to pick a single-purpose, seemingly under-maintained tool over an assistant you're already using for everything else.
