Bolt turns a prompt into a running, deployable web app inside the browser, using StackBlitz's WebContainers so there's no local environment to set up — genuinely fast for prototypes and demos, and it now chooses the underlying model itself through Standard and Max agents.
The rough edges show up past the demo stage. Bolt syncs the whole codebase on every interaction, so token budgets burn fast on anything beyond a small project, and bug fixes sometimes rewrite whole files instead of patching them, occasionally breaking code that worked. Users no longer pick a model: since May 2026 Bolt offers two agents, Standard and Max, and chooses the model behind the scenes; Claude Sonnet 4.6 had been the default since April. Two September 2026 additions change the value calculation.
