v0 is one of the quickest routes from a prompt to a deployed Next.js app, and the February 2026 release made it more than a component generator: GitHub repositories can be imported, pull requests merged and code edited in a built-in editor. Inside Vercel's stack it removes a great deal of setup work.
The catch is metering. Every message is billed in tokens, including the project context v0 sends along, so costs scale with project size as well as prompt length, and there are no refunds. Strong for teams on Next.js and Vercel; budget-conscious users should watch usage or connect a ChatGPT plan to cover eligible responses.
What we found
v0 began in 2023 as Vercel's generator of React and Tailwind interface components: an alpha with a waitlist that, by Vercel's count, drew 100,000 sign-ups in three weeks, and a beta with paid plans from 11 October 2023. It has since grown into what Vercel calls an agent for building full-stack web apps. It plans the work, writes the code, connects databases and APIs, and publishes the result to Vercel. A release dated 4 February 2026 added Git integration, with existing GitHub repositories imported and branches, commits and pull requests handled inside v0, plus a built-in VS Code-style editor and projects tied to a live deployment.
Pricing is where buyers need care. Every message is metered in tokens, and the context v0 sends with a prompt, such as chat history and source files, counts as input, so a short request on a large project can cost more than expected. Plus is $30 per user a month with $30 of credits plus $2 of daily login credits; Business is $100 per user and adds a training opt-out; Enterprise adds SAML SSO and support SLAs. New free users get $5 of credits once and seven messages a day. Vercel offers no refunds, discounts or regional pricing, and the older Premium and Ultra plans are being wound down.
The cost complaints are real and dated. When usage-based pricing arrived in May 2025, threads on Vercel's own community forum reported a $30 top-up gone in a day or two, while at least one heavy user replied that they could not reproduce that burn rate. ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can now connect that plan so eligible responses on supported OpenAI models stop drawing v0 credits.
v0 is strongest for teams already on Next.js and Vercel who want a working page or app quickly. Anyone on a fixed budget should watch the usage dashboard closely.
