Bland's case rests on owning the whole stack: its own speech, language and voice models, billed as one per-minute rate with no token or provider pass-throughs, plus on-prem or VPC deployment and a BAA for regulated buyers. The December 2025 move from $0.09 to $0.14 a minute on Start shows prices can shift, and most of the advanced features sit on Build or Enterprise. Best for regulated, high-volume call operations with engineering support; small teams wanting a set-and-forget receptionist should trial it carefully first.
What we found
Bland AI, which now brands itself simply as Bland and operates as Bland Inc. in San Francisco, sells AI phone agents built for long, regulated calls in healthcare, insurance and financial services. Its about page says the company pivoted midway through Y Combinator in 2023, that 180 investors turned the pitch down, and that the team spent more than it had on GPUs to build its own speech recognition, language model and text-to-speech instead of wrapping other vendors' models. That in-house stack is what separates it from orchestration platforms such as Vapi.
In June 2026 Bland announced a $50 million Series C led by Dell Technologies Capital, with HubSpot Ventures, Archerman Capital and Tribeca Venture Partners, taking total funding past $100 million. The release names Samsara, Kin Insurance and CNO Financial Group as customers and claims more than 250 enterprise customers and 3.5 million calls a week; the about page, read on 14 October 2026, says 722 million calls to date. These are company figures. The homepage chart ranking Bland first for voice realism comes from Bland's own benchmark.
Pricing is all-in per minute: the language model, transcription and voice are included, and telephony is billed separately or brought from your own carrier. Start costs $0.14 a minute with no platform fee and two trial credits; Build is $0.12 a minute plus $299 a month, with higher call caps and more voices; Enterprise is contracted and adds on-prem or VPC deployment, a BAA, SSO and data residency. Those rates replaced a flat $0.09 a minute on 5 December 2025, roughly a 55% rise for Start users, softened by a credit based on each account's previous month.
The building blocks are Conversational Pathways flows, knowledge bases, transfers and integrations. Earlier versions of this page cited Fortune, latency tests, review-site complaint patterns and charges for unconnected calls that could not be traced, and they are gone.
