Bing Image Creator is one of the easiest free ways to make AI images: type a prompt at bing.com/create and get results from Microsoft's in-house MAI-Image models, which replaced OpenAI's DALL-E as the default in July 2026. Fifteen fast creations a day are free, after which generation slows rather than stops.
You do not control model changes, filters are strict, and there is no API or fine-tuning, so professionals who need consistent output should use a paid tool. It needs a personal Microsoft account, not a work or school Entra ID, and works everywhere except Russia and China in more than 100 languages, so ASEAN access is straightforward.
What we found
Bing Image Creator is still free and still lives at bing.com/create, which now resolves to Bing's own image-creation page; earlier versions of this page pointed to Microsoft Designer, a separate tool. What has changed is the engine. It launched in March 2023 on OpenAI's DALL-E, added GPT-4o as a second option in August 2025, and on 23 July 2026 Microsoft AI said its own MAI-Image-2.5 had become the default model end to end, calling the service "100% in-house by default". In our signed-out check on 12 October 2026 the model menu offered two modes: Vivid and natural (MAI-Image-2.5-Flash) and Stylized illustration (MAI-Image-2e, sign-in required). DALL-E 3 and GPT-4o were not offered there.
Microsoft's FAQ gives 15 free fast creations a day, not a week; after that, generation drops to standard speed, or you can spend Microsoft Rewards points on more fast ones. The same page carries style templates, a photo editor with background removal, restoration and expansion, and Bing Video Creator for short clips.
The terms are plain. Microsoft says the tool is free for anyone with a personal Microsoft account, is unavailable on work or school Entra ID accounts, and works worldwide except Russia and China, with prompts accepted in more than 100 languages, so access across ASEAN is straightforward. Images are kept for up to 90 days and carry a visible watermark plus C2PA content credentials.
The weakness is that you do not choose which model you get. In December 2024 Microsoft moved the tool to a DALL-E 3 update code-named PR16, promising images twice as fast; after complaints about synthetic-looking people, search head Jordi Ribas said it would revert to the older PR13. The 2026 move to in-house models is a bigger change of the same kind, so a look that worked last year may not reproduce.
It suits students, hobbyists and small marketing teams who want quick free images. Anyone who needs a pinned model, an API or brand consistency should pay for a tool that offers them.
