AI Dungeon is still the simplest way to play open-ended interactive fiction with an AI: type anything and the story moves. The free plan is usable, with nine story generators and unlimited basic images, and the paid tiers mostly buy context, from 8k on $14.99 Journey to 64k on $99.99 Ultimate, plus more Memories and credits.
Latitude is putting its new work into Voyage, its persistent-world RPG platform, and now bundles AI Dungeon into Voyage subscriptions. That keeps AI Dungeon alive and updated, but it is no longer the company's headline product. Start free; pay only if long campaigns need the context.

AI Dungeon is the text adventure that introduced many people to generative AI. Latitude launched it in 2019, and it lets a player type any action while an AI narrator continues the story, across fantasy, science fiction, horror or anything else, with a large library of community-made scenarios. Seven years on it is still actively maintained: the iOS app was updated on 12 October 2026, and the web version runs at play.aidungeon.com.
The model line-up is broad and changes often. On 14 October 2026 the pricing page listed nine story generators on the free plan, among them Latitude's own Wayfarer and Muse models and DeepSeek V4 Flash, mostly at a 4k-token context, with 25 saved Memories and unlimited SDXL Lightning images. Journey, at $14.99 a month, gives 20 generators, 8k context, 100 Memories and 760 monthly credits. Legend at $29.99 moves to 16k context and 1,650 credits, Mythic at $49.99 to 32k and 2,750, and Ultimate at $99.99 to 64k context, 800 Memories and 5,200 credits. Credits buy extra context on some models and premium images, and they accumulate rather than expire.
Latitude's energy has visibly shifted to Voyage, a platform for persistent AI role-playing worlds that entered an expanded beta in April 2026, which TechCrunch reported alongside a partnership with Google's AI Futures Fund. The two products now share plans: a Voyage Unlimited subscription includes AI Dungeon at the same tier, and Voyage alone offers annual billing, from $140.04 a year for Journey.
Latitude, Inc. operates both from Utah under Utah law. Its refund policy invites anyone who forgot to cancel to email support, except for App Store purchases, which Apple handles. For casual interactive fiction the free plan is a fair way to start; long campaigns, where the story has to remember earlier events and characters, are where the paid tiers' larger context and Memories earn their price.
