Agnes AI in Southeast Asia
Agnes is one of the few Southeast Asian AI products competing on the region's own languages rather than on price. It is Singapore-built, ships its own open Agnes-SeaLLM-8B tuned for Southeast Asian languages, and sits within Singapore's National AI Impact Program. Its five million registered users are significant in a region where local consumer AI often loses to heavily marketed Western or Chinese apps. Achieving sustained adoption at that scale is rare. The open model is the part worth watching for builders elsewhere in ASEAN: a tuned 8B that handles regional languages is deployable on budgets that frontier APIs are not.
Agnes AI has turned from a consumer workspace into a model company with an unusual developer offer: an OpenAI-compatible API whose flash text, image and video models currently cost nothing, Token Plans from $4 a month, and open weights under Apache 2.0. Independent leaderboards list its video and image models.
Read the rest carefully: user counts, revenue and programme roles come from the company's own releases, free-key limits were halved in September 2026, and some models are Qwen fine-tunes. Worth testing for low-cost multimodal access; verify quotas first.
What we found
Agnes AI is no longer mainly the AI workspace it launched as in 2025. The company behind it, Singapore Sapiens Technology Pte. Ltd., also known as Sapiens AI, now describes itself as a frontier AI company focused on full-modality foundation models, and most of what is new sits on the developer side.
That side is the reason to look. Agnes serves text, image and video models through an OpenAI-compatible API, and its pricing page lists the flash models, agnes-3.0-flash for text, the image 2.x flash models and agnes-video-2.5-flash, at a current price of $0. The catch is rate limits: on 23 September 2026 the free tier's text limit was halved to 10 requests a minute. Heavier users can buy a Token Plan at $4, $10 or $50 a month, priced by requests per five-hour window, while non-flash models such as agnes-2.5-pro are billed per token or per second. Earlier versions of this page said no pricing was published. Several models, including Agnes-3.0-Flash and the Southeast Asian-language Agnes-SeaLLM-8B, are on Hugging Face under Apache 2.0, and the metadata shows some are fine-tuned from Alibaba's Qwen rather than trained from scratch.
On the consumer side there is the Agnes app on web, iOS and Android, with in-app plans on iOS from $2.99 a month, plus the Pavo image and video app and Echo, a roleplay app.
Outside evidence is thin but real. Artificial Analysis lists Agnes-Video-2.5 and Agnes Image 2.0 Flash on its public leaderboards, though below the positions the company's homepage shows, and Google Cloud has published a customer story on its use of Gemini. Almost everything else comes from Agnes's own press releases: millions of users, about half in Southeast Asia, revenue approaching $20 million a year, a Series A led by LOOK FORWARD VCC and a role in Singapore's National AI Impact Programme. Test the free key against your own workload before relying on it.
