由 n₁ sin θ₁ = n₂ sin θ₂ 得 sin θ₂ = (1.00 × sin 30°) / 1.50 = 0.333 → θ₂ ≈ 19.5°
n = c / v — 真空光速除以介质中的光速。

Method & sources
How it computes
n1 sin(theta1) = n2 sin(theta2). The attribution is contested and worth stating: Ibn Sahl wrote the relation in Baghdad in 984, Thomas Harriot had it by 1602 and Willebrord Snellius by 1621, both unpublished, and Descartes published first in 1637 — which is why the French call it Descartes' law. The critical angle for total internal reflection follows from the same equation when n1 > n2.
What this tool implements
- Angles are measured from the NORMAL, not from the surface. Measuring from the surface is the single most common error and silently gives the complement of the right answer.
- Total internal reflection is reported rather than returning a nonsense refraction angle: when n1 > n2 and the incidence angle exceeds the critical angle, no refracted ray exists and asin() has no real solution.
- Refractive index is wavelength-dependent. A single value per material is an approximation at one wavelength — dispersion is what makes a prism work, and it is not modelled here.
- The law holds at a smooth interface between two homogeneous isotropic media. Birefringent materials have two indices and are outside this calculation.

What can make this go out of date
- None at runtime. Indices ship with the page as single-wavelength values; a design needing dispersion should use tabulated data at its own wavelength.
