Skybox does one thing — generate a usable 360° environment from a prompt — and does it fast, with an official Unity plugin and export routes into Unreal and Blender. Used by more than 1.5 million creators by its own count, it's become a default first stop for indie devs and previz artists who need a backdrop without hand-painting an HDRI. The catch is the credit system: the free plan gives five watermarked, view-only generations, and real use means $24-$140 a month (a fifth less billed annually), gated by credits and resolution — HDRI exports sit on the $140 Business tier and API access starts at Standard. Output style and prompt fidelity are still generative-AI variable, so you'll iterate. For a narrow, well-executed niche tool, it's hard to beat; just budget for the credits before committing to a project pipeline.

Skybox AI from Blockade Labs does one job — turning a text prompt into a usable 360-degree environment — and it has done it at scale since its public launch in February 2023. The company says more than 1.5 million creators have used it and that it had passed 10 million generated skyboxes by early 2024, across games, XR, architecture and media. It calls itself the world's leading 360-degree generator; that is its own claim.
Engine integration is the reason teams stick with it, though it is narrower than often described. The only official plugin is for Unity, with the SDK on GitHub; Unreal support comes from a community-built plugin, and Blender works by downloading and importing, with an MCP connector promised. The homepage also advertises MCP support, generation in about 15 seconds, resolutions up to 16K and 32-bit HDRI exports, and a banner invites requests for access to a next-generation model.
Pricing changed shape. The plans page now defaults to monthly billing: Essential $24 a month per seat for 100 credits and 4K exports; Standard $60 for 300 credits, 8K exports, batch generation, the latest model and API key access; Business $140 for 500 credits, 16K and HDRI exports, two concurrent generations and IP protection; and a custom Enterprise tier. Annual billing saves 20%, bringing those to $20, $48 and $112. The free plan gives five generations, view-only and watermarked, without commercial rights; the plan data flags commercial licensing on every paid tier, though the cards show it only on Business, so confirm before relying on it.
Output style and prompt fidelity remain generative-AI variable, so expect to iterate, and the lower tiers' resolution and credit caps bite on real projects. We could not trace an independent rating.
