What we found

Samsung Gauss2 is the second generation of Samsung's in-house generative AI model, unveiled at the Samsung Developer Conference Korea in November 2024, a year after the original Gauss. It comes in three sizes: Compact, optimised to run on devices; Balanced; and Supreme, which uses a mixture-of-experts design built on Balanced. Samsung says the Balanced and Supreme models process requests 1.5 to 3 times faster than leading open-source models and that, depending on the model, they support nine to fourteen languages and various programming languages, using a custom tokenizer.

Gauss2 is used inside Samsung rather than sold. Its coding assistant, code.i, is used by about 60% of software developers in Samsung's device division and by overseas research centres; the Samsung Gauss Portal handles office tasks; and since August 2024 Gauss has categorised and summarised customer-service calls. Samsung said in 2024 that it planned to integrate Gauss2 into products, but no Samsung page we found says any shipping Galaxy AI feature runs on it, and Galaxy AI also draws on Google's Gemini and other partners. Korean press reported newer internal versions — Gauss 2.3, Gauss 2.3 Think and Gauss O Flash — powering an internal agent builder and knowledge search in late 2025, and in June 2026 Samsung's device division began giving staff ChatGPT, Gemini Enterprise and Claude while continuing to develop Gauss for specialised internal work. One report claimed Samsung would abandon Gauss; Korean trade press contradicted it, and Samsung has announced nothing.
