Motion's auto-scheduler is still the reason to buy it: tasks land on your calendar by deadline and duration, and the plan rebuilds itself when a meeting moves. The notetaker that turns action items into scheduled tasks is a useful companion. The AI Employees agents it promoted in 2025 have disappeared from its site.
It is a considered purchase. There is no free plan, monthly billing costs about half as much again as the annual rate, and Trustpilot reviews keep describing trial and renewal charges people did not expect. Try it on monthly billing, put the trial end date in your calendar, and commit annually only once you are living in it.
What we found
Motion is a San Francisco work-management app from a Y Combinator Winter 2020 company founded by Harry Qi, Omid Rooholfada and Ethan Yu. Its core idea has not changed: give it tasks with deadlines, durations and priorities and it places them on your calendar, then re-plans the day when a meeting moves or a task slips. Around that it now sells AI projects and Gantt charts, docs and a wiki, a meeting notetaker that turns action items into assigned tasks, dashboards, and workflows built from standard operating procedures.
The AI Employees push has receded. In September 2025 Motion announced $60 million across its Series B, C and C2 rounds, $75 million raised in total at a $550 million valuation, with the $38 million Series C led by Scale Venture Partners, and said its AI Employees agents went from zero to eight-figure annual recurring revenue in three months. Those are company figures. By October 2026 the AI Employees page redirects to the homepage, and neither the homepage nor the pricing page mentions the agents or the sales-led add-ons earlier versions of this page described.
Pricing is per seat, with monthly AI credits. Pro AI is $19 a seat a month billed annually or $29 monthly for teams, and $29 or $49 for an individual. Business AI, which adds Gantt charts, time tracking, capacity planning and permissions, is $29 or $49 for teams and $39 or $69 for one person. There is no free plan. A trial is offered, and the terms say billing starts automatically when it ends unless it is cancelled first.
That trial is where complaints gather. When read on 14 October 2026, Trustpilot showed 3.7 from 578 reviews, 27% of them one-star, and five of the twelve most recent reviews described unexpected or renewal charges. Trustpilot also notes that Motion has not invited reviews recently, so the page mostly reflects people who went looking for it. Set a reminder before any trial ends.
