Kapwing is one of the most complete browser editors for short, captioned video: subtitles, translation into 60+ languages, dubbing, silence trimming and audio cleanup sit in one shared workspace, and the Kai agent can now plan and run multi-step edits after you approve its credit estimate. Pricing is clear, at $24 a month for Pro or $16 billed annually.
The limits are the credit pool, which caps every AI feature, the absence of refunds or a paid-plan trial, and a free tier that watermarks and stops at 720p. Use it for social and marketing video; keep a desktop editor for long-form post-production.

Kapwing is a browser-based video editor from a San Francisco company started by Julia Enthoven and Eric Lu, who worked together on Google Image Search. It launched in October 2017 as little more than a meme maker, raised a $1.7 million seed round led by Kleiner Perkins in 2018 and an $11 million Series A led by CRV in 2019, and now says 35 million creators use it. A timeline editor, subtitles, resizing, transcript trimming, audio editing and screen recording all run in a tab, with projects saved to a shared workspace.
The AI layer has grown quickly. Auto-subtitling, subtitle translation into more than 60 languages, dubbing, text to speech, Clean Audio and Smart Cut silence removal sit beside generative tools reached through Kai, Kapwing's editing agent. The August 2026 release notes describe an autonomous Kai mode that works through a task checklist, asks the user to approve an estimated credit cost first, and calls outside video models such as Seedance and Hailuo. A Kapwing MCP server also lets chatbots such as Claude or ChatGPT caption, translate, dub and export inside a user's account.
Since December 2025 every AI feature draws on one credit pool. The free plan exports watermarked video up to four minutes at 720p, 30 export minutes a month, with 3-day storage; the pricing page lists 10 credits, though the August notes say free users now get 50. Pro is $24 a month, or $16 billed annually, with 1,000 credits, 4K and two-hour exports. Business is $64, or $50 billed annually, with 4,000 credits, voice cloning and lip sync. Enterprise adds SSO and invoicing. Kapwing offers no trial of paid plans and no refunds.
Earlier versions of this page quoted a subtitle accuracy rate, a 30-minute export failure and collaboration complaints that could not be traced to any review, so they are gone. Kapwing suits teams making captioned, translated social video; long-form work still belongs in a desktop editor.
