A browser IDE married Gemini assistance to one-click Firebase deploy — a fast prompt-to-app path with a generous free preview tier, back when it was worth adopting for anyone already in Google's ecosystem.
That's now history rather than a recommendation. Google announced the sunset on 19 March 2026: new workspace creation and signups closed on 22 June 2026, and the service shuts down completely — with all remaining project data permanently deleted — on 22 March 2027. Google is folding the use case into two successors instead: Google AI Studio for browser-based prototyping, and Google Antigravity for agent-driven local development. Existing users have until the 2027 deadline to migrate; core Firebase services (Firestore, Auth, App Hosting) keep working regardless. There's no reason to start a new project here — go straight to AI Studio or Antigravity.
