Elai is a sensible pick for learning teams that want interactive avatar video without a production budget: branching, hotspots, quizzes and analytics come on every plan, and PowerPoint-to-video and the AI storyboard make it quick to turn existing course material into video. Panopto ownership adds a natural home for organisations already using Panopto.
Read the pricing table closely. Minutes are spent on every render, the self-serve plans are small (15 or 50 minutes a month), and SCORM export, SSO and the Panopto integration sit in the quoted Enterprise tier. Good for internal training at modest volume; teams that need LMS packaging should budget for Enterprise from the start.

Elai.io is a browser-based studio that turns scripts, slide decks and web pages into videos presented by AI avatars, aimed squarely at training and learning teams. On 23 October 2024 Panopto, the Pittsburgh video-learning company, announced that it had acquired Elai, which its release described as a 2021 start-up based in Lewes, Delaware with more than 2,000 customers. Terms were not disclosed, and Elai's chief executive, Vitalii Romanchenko, became Panopto's head of AI product strategy. Today elai.io carries an "Elai is part of Panopto" banner, Panopto sells the product inside its own platform as AI Video Studio, and Elai is still sold on its own with self-serve plans.
The feature set is built for courses rather than adverts. Every plan, the free one included, lists branching, buttons, hotspots, text quizzes and video analytics; multi-select questions start on Team and image quizzes on Enterprise. Elai lists 80+ stock avatars, 75+ languages and 450+ accents, voice cloning in 28 languages, PowerPoint- and URL-to-video conversion, an AI storyboard that drafts a script from a prompt or document, and two-avatar dialogue scenes. The public API is listed from Creator upward.
One detail matters for anyone assuming LMS delivery: SCORM export, single sign-on, workspaces and the Panopto integration are ticked only for Enterprise on Elai's pricing table, so a team that needs SCORM is buying a quoted contract. Earlier versions of this page implied it came with ordinary plans.
Self-serve pricing is plain. Creator costs $29 a month, or $23 a month billed annually, for 15 minutes of video; Team costs $125 a month, or $100 billed annually, for 50 minutes and three editors. Extra minutes are $2 each, every render spends minutes even when re-rendering the same video, and below Team a selfie avatar ($199 a year) and a voice clone ($200 a year) are add-ons. Review-site ratings and avatar-realism comparisons quoted on earlier versions could not be re-read and have been removed.
