Cropin has one of the longest track records in agri-data, and OrbitAI puts a conversational, agent-based front end on it: production, sourcing, underwriting, sustainability and agronomy agents running on Gemini, with an MCP server for plugging into other AI systems. The open akṣara model on Hugging Face is a small bonus for researchers.
Every scale figure, from 103 countries to a billion acres, is Cropin's own, and the 2026 push into forests, water, energy and infrastructure is partly roadmap. No price is published. Suited to large food, seed, finance and public-sector buyers who can run an enterprise procurement; not to individual farmers.
What we found
Cropin is a Bengaluru company, CropIn Technology Solutions Private Limited, set up in 2010 and led by founder and chief executive Krishna Kumar. It began with farm-digitisation apps for agribusinesses and has spent 2026 repositioning. Its site now sells "verified intelligence for the physical world": a Cropin Cloud of four layers (a data foundry for satellite, field and enterprise data; domain models; the OrbitAI agent layer; and configurable apps and workflows). Food and agriculture remain the proven domain, with forest and water described as expanding and energy and infrastructure as upcoming. The app suite once called SmartFarm and then Cropin Grow is now simply Cropin Apps.
OrbitAI, launched with Google Cloud on 14 July 2026, is the main AI product. It runs on Gemini models, Google's Agent Development Kit, BigQuery and WeatherNext, answers questions by chat or voice, and offers live agents for production, sourcing, underwriting, sustainability, agronomy and growers. It is also exposed as an MCP server. Cropin calls it the world's first agentic AI platform for food and agriculture; that is the company's own description. The generative Sage platform launched in 2024 now redirects to OrbitAI. Separately, akṣara, a small agriculture model fine-tuned from Mistral-7B-Instruct, sits on Hugging Face under the Apache 2.0 licence, unchanged since April 2024.
The scale figures are all Cropin's: 250+ enterprise clients, 103 countries, more than 400 million hectares analysed and 22+ proprietary models. Earlier versions of this page used an older 0.2 billion acres. Named customers and partners include Walmart, Wipro, HCLTech, BCG and Google Cloud. Investors listed on its site include ABC Impact, Chiratae, Google, JSR, British International Investment and the Gates Foundation Strategic Investment Fund; the January 2023 round raised ₹113 crore, about $14 million. Lifetime totals quoted elsewhere could not be traced.
No price is published. Buyers request a demo or send an RFP, and contracts are enterprise-scale, aimed at food companies, seed firms, lenders, insurers and governments rather than individual farmers.
