Overview
PR-Agent is an open-source AI pull-request reviewer driving PR descriptions, reviews, code suggestions and Q&A through slash commands. Started at CodiumAI (now Qodo) in July 2023, it was handed to the community-owned The-PR-Agent organisation in April 2026 and has been MIT-licensed since July 2026. It is separate from Qodo's commercial review platform.

PR-Agent is still one of the best free AI pull-request reviewers: /describe, /review, /improve and /ask produce summaries, review comments and committable suggestions on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps and Gitea. It is model-agnostic and fully self-hostable, so you choose the model and where your code goes.
It suits teams comfortable wiring up a GitHub Action, webhook or container and paying their own LLM bill; quality tracks the model you choose. It is not a managed service, and /help_docs is disabled pending a security fix.
What we found
PR-Agent is the open-source pull-request reviewer that CodiumAI, now Qodo, started in July 2023. On 23 April 2026 Qodo announced it was handing the project to a new community-owned GitHub organisation, The-PR-Agent, with Naor Peled as lead maintainer, and the old qodo-ai/pr-agent address now redirects there. Its licence has changed four times: Apache-2.0 at launch, AGPL-3.0 from May 2025, Apache-2.0 again in May 2026 and MIT since 9 July 2026. Qodo remains a sponsor, and the README states plainly that the project is not Qodo's free tier.
The project is active. Release 0.47.0 shipped on 2 October 2026, after ten releases since early July, and Docker images moved from the frozen codiumai namespace to pragent/pr-agent. The core workflow is unchanged: comment /describe, /review, /improve or /ask on a pull request, or run it on every new PR through GitHub Actions, a webhook or the CLI. The maintainers say /review, /improve and /ask each use a single LLM call. It works on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps and Gitea, with partial Gerrit and CodeCommit support, and through LiteLLM it can call OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Bedrock, Ollama and others.
There is nothing to buy from the project itself. You pay your model provider, and you host and configure it yourself. One feature, /help_docs, has been disabled since version 0.36.1 pending a fix for a credential-exposure issue, which is worth knowing before rolling it out.
The commercial alternative is now a separate product. Qodo sells its own review platform on credit packs starting at $30 a month for a pool of 2,500 credits, which it estimates at about 18 reviews, with a 14-day trial but no permanent free tier. Earlier advice on this page that PR-Agent upgrades to Qodo Merge at about $19 per user no longer matches anything Qodo publishes.
