Cleanup.pictures does one job well: brush over something in a photo and it disappears, with nothing to install. The free tier is enough for social images, since only the export is capped at 720 pixels; Pro at $5 a month or $36 a year unlocks full resolution and a better refiner.
Ownership has moved from Init ML to Stability AI to Jasper, and the developer docs now point to Jasper for newer models, so treat it as a mature tool rather than a growing one. Refunds are limited, so use the free tier before paying.

Cleanup.pictures is a single-purpose web tool: upload a photo, brush over an object, person, blemish or line of text, and it fills the area with a plausible background. It comes from Init ML, the small French company behind Clipdrop, and was already online in October 2021, when it was posted to Hacker News. Stability AI acquired Clipdrop in March 2023 and sold it to Jasper, the marketing-AI company, in February 2024. Earlier versions of this page dated the first sale to February 2023; reporting at the time said March. The page still loads and works, now badged "by Clipdrop", and Clipdrop's developer docs carry a banner saying Clipdrop is part of Jasper now. Clipdrop's terms name INIT ML, registered in Montreuil, outside Paris, with support handled through a Jasper address.
The free tier's limit is on the export, not the upload: an image of any size can be loaded, but results download at 720 pixels. Pro removes that cap and adds a higher-quality refiner model for $5 a month or $36 a year, for one user. Refunds are described as given only in rare cases, in full within 14 days and prorated after. The broader Clipdrop Pro plan adds background removal, uncrop and other tools; its price was not shown on Clipdrop's own pricing page when checked.
Developers can call the same model through the Clipdrop API. Each successful cleanup costs one credit, 100 free credits are offered for testing, and images can be up to 16 megapixels. Beyond that, the docs direct developers to Jasper for newer models and credits, which suggests where the product's attention now lies.
Earlier versions of this page summarised Trustpilot complaints about trial charges and support; Trustpilot could not be read today, so those are not repeated. As a quick way to remove a photobomber or date stamp, it remains fast and free; for print-size work, the $36 annual plan is the cheaper route.
