CAIMEx is infrastructure, not an app: a managed gateway that lets African telcos switch between frontier models behind one OpenAI-compatible API, with routing and cost controls and Cassava's regional compute underneath. It has no model of its own, so its value lies in procurement convenience, latency and data-residency positioning, not in the AI itself.
It is aimed at mobile operators and large enterprises, with no published pricing, sign-up or named customers, and its hosting promise has softened from "within Africa" to "in-region where required". Worth a sales conversation for African telcos; not for individual builders.

CAIMEx, the Cassava AI Multi-Model Exchange, is a model gateway from Cassava AI, the AI business unit of Cassava Technologies. Cassava is the UK-headquartered group founded by Strive Masiyiwa that also owns Liquid Intelligent Technologies. Announced on 12 November 2025, CAIMEx gives mobile network operators one API in front of several large language models. The launch release names OpenAI, Anthropic and Google as providers and lists Claude and Gemini models among those supported. Cassava calls it Africa's first AI multi-model exchange; that is the company's description, not an outside ranking.
The product page describes four parts: an exchange of global and regional models, a single OpenAI-compatible API, policy-based routing by use case, cost, performance, data sensitivity or geography, and managed operations covering observability, safety controls and cost monitoring. Cassava's own solutions run on top of it, including the CECI customer-service chatbot, geospatial AI and the Cassava Autonomous Network agents for radio and transport networks, launched in March 2026. A March 2026 release adds that developers can build and fine-tune applications through CAIMEx using NVIDIA Blueprints, models and NIM microservices.
The hosting claim needs careful reading. The launch release says all services are hosted in Cassava's regional AI factories and that data stays within Africa. The current product page is more qualified: CAIMEx runs on infrastructure across Africa and the Middle East, with in-region data handling where required. On compute, Cassava said in March 2026 that it was deploying an NVIDIA-powered AI factory in South Africa with plans for Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Morocco, and in September 2026 Vodafone Business and Cassava announced Egypt's first AI factory.
No price, self-serve sign-up or named operator customer is published; access runs through Cassava's sales team and its Cassava Cloud Partner programme for operators and systems integrators. No review-site listings were found. For African telcos and large enterprises weighing data residency it is worth a conversation; an individual developer has nothing to buy.
