The new product is young, independent reviews are almost non-existent, and customers of the old avatar workflow should check what still applies. What we found
Argil has changed direction. It began as a tool for training an AI clone of yourself and mass-producing short talking-head videos, and by August 2026 it had relaunched as an AI storytelling studio: users develop an idea into a script and storyboard, then generate and assemble the shots into a finished film using a choice of video and image models, in an interface the company calls Director. A September 2026 essay by its co-founder Brivael Le Pogam says Argil is a storytelling tool rather than a video tool. Avatar features still exist — its terms let users decline the face-data features and keep using everything else — but they are no longer the headline, and we could not confirm that the earlier digital-twin and social-video features are still sold as before.
Argil was founded in Paris in 2023 by Laodis Menard, its chief executive, and Brivael Le Pogam, its technical chief, went through Y Combinator's summer 2024 batch and has a team of about eight. It raised €4.9 million by November 2024, including a €3.9 million seed round led by EQT Ventures. The service is now contracted through Argil, Inc., a Delaware company.
Pricing is credit-based and in US dollars. Pro starts at $50 a month for 2,000 credits, with larger credit packages up to $2,250 for 100,000, and includes Director, all models and email support; Business starts at $100 a month for 4,000 credits and adds a team workspace; Enterprise, sold after a demo, adds volume pricing, dedicated support, onboarding, custom connectors and audit logs. Yearly billing costs ten months' price. Monthly plan credits do not roll over, but extra pay-as-you-go credits never expire. No free plan is listed.
Independent reviews of the new product are scarce; Trustpilot shows 2.6 from just four reviews. Argil now suits storytellers and small studios wanting an AI pipeline from script to film, rather than creators wanting an avatar of themselves.
