Apple Intelligence finally has the Siri it promised: Siri AI, shipped in beta in September 2026, understands personal context and the screen and acts inside apps, running on Apple Foundation Models built with Google's Gemini on Apple's Private Cloud Compute. The rest of the suite — Writing Tools, summaries, photo clean-up, live translation — is useful and included with capable devices. But it is English-first, waitlisted and still in beta; Malay, Thai, Indonesian and Filipino are unsupported; and server features now carry daily limits, with Apple saying a paid tier for expanded access is coming. A strong reason to turn it on if you own a recent Apple device, not a reason to buy one yet.

Apple Intelligence is Apple's built-in AI for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro and, through a paired iPhone, Apple Watch, announced in June 2024. Smaller models run on the device and larger ones on Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers. With the 27 releases on 14 September 2026, Apple's next-generation Foundation Models, which it says were custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models, began powering a rebuilt Siri. Siri AI understands personal context and what is on screen, answers broad questions, takes actions in apps, writes, and has its own app that syncs conversations across devices. It launched in beta in English with a waitlist, and Apple said French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish would follow in October. Bloomberg has reported that the Gemini-based model has about 1.2 trillion parameters under a deal worth about $1 billion a year; neither company has confirmed either figure.
Other features include Writing Tools for rewriting and proofreading, notification and message summaries, Image Playground and Genmoji, photo tools such as Clean Up and Extend, Visual Intelligence through the camera, and live translation in Messages, FaceTime, Phone and AirPods. Developers can use the on-device model at no cost per request.
It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later, an M1 or later iPad or Mac, or Vision Pro, and some features need newer devices. It works in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and ten other languages including French, German and Spanish; Malay, Thai, Indonesian and Filipino are not supported, though English users in Singapore and Malaysia get it. It is not available on iPhone or iPad in the EU, and Apple says the new features will not reach mainland China while it works through regulatory requirements.
It is included with capable devices, but server features now have daily limits, and Apple says expanded access will cost a fee later. Siri AI is not available to users under 13. Judge the new Siri on your own tasks while it is in beta.
