Alexa+ is a real step up from the old Alexa: it converses naturally, remembers context, books and buys things, and now absorbs Amazon's Rufus shopping assistant. For Prime members it costs nothing extra, and a limited free tier on the web and app lets anyone try it. It still makes factual errors and can be slow, and it is not available in Singapore or elsewhere in Southeast Asia. An easy upgrade for Prime households with Echo devices in supported countries; not worth $19.99 a month for most others.

Alexa+ is Amazon's generative-AI rebuild of its Alexa voice assistant, unveiled in February 2025 and rolled out across the US in February 2026. It holds natural conversations, remembers context and preferences, and acts for you: ordering takeout, finding and booking restaurants, booking rides, scheduling home repairs and controlling smart-home devices. It runs on Echo speakers and screens, Fire TV, Fire tablets, some Samsung TVs, Bose speakers and the JBL Cove, in the Alexa app and in a browser at Alexa.com, where you can type and continue a conversation started elsewhere. Amazon says it uses large language models from its own Nova family and from Anthropic. In May 2026 Amazon folded its Rufus shopping assistant into Alexa+ as Alexa for Shopping, which tracks price history, builds carts, reorders and shops other stores. A children's version is available with parental consent.
Amazon says 97% of the Alexa devices it has ever shipped can run Alexa+, though some first-generation Echo Dots and Echo Shows cannot, and that tens of millions of people joined its early-access programme. Reviewers including BGR, which still argued it was worth paying for, have reported factual errors, over-chatty answers and lag.
It is available in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and, since September 2026, India, with more than ten further countries planned for 2027; Singapore and the rest of Southeast Asia are not yet on the list. In the US it speaks English and Spanish.
There are three US plans. A free plan gives limited daily use on Alexa.com, the app and compatible Fire TVs, but not on Echo devices, which keep the original Alexa. Prime members, at $14.99 a month, get unlimited use on every device at no extra cost. Others can pay $19.99 a month for the same access plus 1 TB of photo and video storage. Paid plans include a 30-day trial.
For Prime households in supported countries it is a straightforward upgrade.
