WoLai is a capable, inexpensive Notion-style workspace for people who work in Chinese. Block-level backlinks, multi-view databases and synced references are all there, exports cover HTML, Markdown, PDF, Word and CSV, and the wol.AI assistant is included on every plan, free for a limited time.
The caveats are about direction rather than features. WoLai has been owned by DingTalk since March 2023, its founder announced a departure from Alibaba in June 2026, and its changelog shows a single entry so far this year. The product is Chinese-only, billed in yuan and built around DingTalk and WeCom. Chinese-speaking teams in Singapore or Malaysia will find it pleasant to use; teams that need English, regional data residency or a clear long-term roadmap should look elsewhere.
What we found
WoLai (我来) is a Chinese block-based workspace in the Notion mould, with multi-view databases, block-level bidirectional links, synced references and a page relationship graph. Its first version opened to beta testers on 15 June 2020, and the operating company, Shanghai Woyun Network Technology (上海我云网络科技有限公司), is registered in Xuhui, Shanghai. DingTalk, Alibaba's workplace platform, completed a full acquisition in March 2023, so it is not the standalone product earlier versions of this page described. Founder Ma Ruila (马锐拉) announced a departure from Alibaba in June 2026, according to IT之家.
The product is still live and still sold. The pricing page lists four plans: a free personal space capped at 1,000 blocks and 200 MB, Personal Pro at ¥158 a year, Team at ¥248 per seat a year and Enterprise at ¥388 per seat a year, with team seats bought from five. The wol.AI assistant is marked free for a limited time on every plan, with a daily allowance running from 2 uses on the free plan to 500 on Enterprise. The changelog added DeepSeek-R1 as a model option in February 2025 and AI voice-note transcription in the mobile apps in late 2025. The pace has slowed: the only entry so far in 2026, dated 22 May, says just "a series of optimisations".
Data portability is better than its reputation. Pages export to HTML, Markdown, PDF and Word, databases to CSV, and a whole-space Markdown export is in beta, usable once every seven days; there is also an offline flight mode. No plan is self-hosted, and the enterprise extras point at Chinese platforms: DingTalk and WeCom sync, custom subdomains, audit logs and watermarks.
For ASEAN readers the fit is narrow but real. The interface, help centre and pricing are in Chinese and yuan, and the sign-up form opens on a +86 phone field. A Chinese-speaking team in Singapore or Malaysia gets Chinese-first editing and an inexpensive paid tier. Long-term users should weigh the continuity risk: the founder has left and releases have slowed.
