Sourcegraph Cody is an AI coding assistant that uses Sourcegraph's code search to pull context from across an organisation's repositories into chat, auto-edit and prompts in VS Code, JetBrains and Visual Studio. Its Free and Pro plans ended in July 2025, and Cody is now available only with Sourcegraph Enterprise, whose pricing page lists a $16K minimum annual contract.

Cody's strength was always context: answers grounded in symbols and usages from across an organisation's repositories, not just the open file. That still holds for Sourcegraph Enterprise customers working in VS Code, JetBrains or Visual Studio.
But the product is shrinking around it. Individual plans ended in July 2025, Deep Search replaced Cody in the browser in February 2026, the editor extensions have not been updated since June 2026, and Sourcegraph's pricing page no longer mentions Cody. Evaluate it only as part of a Sourcegraph Enterprise purchase; individuals and small teams should look elsewhere.
What we found
Sourcegraph Cody is the AI coding assistant from Sourcegraph, the code-search company. It appeared in 2023 and reached general availability as Cody 1.0 on 14 December 2023, sold then as a free tier and a $9-a-month Pro plan. Its pitch was context: rather than seeing only the open file, Cody pulls symbols, usages and APIs from across an organisation's repositories through Sourcegraph's search, which matters most on large or old codebases.
That individual market is gone. Sourcegraph stopped new Free and Pro sign-ups on 25 June 2025 and ended both plans on 23 July 2025, also removing Cody from its Enterprise Starter plan. Departing users were pointed to Amp, the agentic coding tool built by the same team, with $10 or $40 in credits. Amp has since left Sourcegraph altogether, spinning out in December 2025 as Amp Frontier Corporation. The Cody client, open source under Apache 2.0 since 2023, moved to a private repository, and the public copy was archived in August 2025.
What remains is Cody for Sourcegraph Enterprise: chat, auto-edit and reusable prompts in VS Code, JetBrains and Visual Studio, with context filters to keep chosen repositories out. Even that has narrowed. On 25 February 2026 Sourcegraph announced that Deep Search was replacing Cody in the browser, leaving the editor extensions in place. Both main extensions were last updated on 17 June 2026, and the VS Code version showed a 3.98 average from 149 ratings on the Visual Studio Marketplace, read 14 October 2026.
Price is the other unknown. Sourcegraph's pricing page no longer names Cody; it lists one Enterprise plan from a $16K minimum annual contract, with credits for AI features included, and pitches an MCP server that works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and Amp. A $59 per user figure quoted elsewhere is not on any current Sourcegraph page. Cody is worth a look only for organisations already buying Sourcegraph; everyone else should evaluate other assistants, Amp included.
