Cody used deep code-graph indexing from Sourcegraph's search platform to ground chat, autocomplete and edits in your actual repositories rather than just the open file — genuinely useful on large, tangled monorepos most assistants choke on. That's now moot for anyone without an enterprise budget: as of July 2025, Sourcegraph killed the Free and Pro tiers outright and terminated existing individual accounts, folding Cody into an Enterprise-only package quoted around $59/user/month, or platform contracts from roughly $16,000/year. The client that once shipped as an Apache-2.0 open-source repo is now maintained privately; the public snapshot was archived in August 2025. Sourcegraph's own answer for individual developers is a separate product, Amp — not Cody. Only worth evaluating if you're already buying Sourcegraph's platform at scale; solo developers and small teams should look at Copilot, Cursor or Amp instead.
