Playground is now a practical design tool for small sellers and social media work: pick a template or describe a design, edit it with one-tap tools and export, with Etsy and Printify connectors for print-on-demand shops. The free plan includes commercial use, which makes it easy to test properly.
Pro at $12 a month billed annually lifts the cap to 75 images per three hours; Pro Plus at $36 removes it. API access is limited to large partners despite appearing on the Pro Plus card. Not the place for the open AI-art community this product used to be.

Playground, operated by AI Playground, Inc., began as a free AI art generator with a public community feed. It retired that product, called Board, in January 2025: the company posted that it would remove legacy features on 6 January and automatically cancel and refund legacy paid subscriptions. Earlier versions of this page dated that to 2026. Today it calls itself an AI design studio for everyone, with templates across 24 categories for stickers, T-shirts, logos, posters, cards and social posts. The playground.com address now redirects to playgroundai.com.
It offers several image models alongside its own Playground v3: Meta's Muse Image, GPT Image 2 and 2.5, Nano Banana, Nano Banana Pro and Seedream. Editing tools include style swaps, object removal, mockups, background removal, upscaling and smart layers that make parts of an image separately editable. The newest direction is commerce: an iOS app, Etsy and Printify connectors over MCP that let Claude or ChatGPT draft and update shop listings, and a dashboard for shop owners.
The free plan allows up to 10 images every three hours, though the comparison table says five for Playground v3, plus three monthly credits on premium models, two downloads a day and commercial use under a worldwide royalty-free licence. Earlier versions of this page said the free tier was non-commercial. Pro is $12 a month billed annually or $15 monthly, with 75 images per three hours, 150 credits, premium templates, SVG export and editing up to 2048 by 2048. Pro Plus is $36 a month annually or $45 monthly, with unlimited generation, 1,000 credits and editing up to 3840 by 2160. API access is listed under Pro Plus, but the FAQ says it goes only to partners generating more than a million images a month.
For a small seller producing print-on-demand graphics, the template library and shop connectors are the draw. Anyone looking for the old open-ended art community will not find it here, and the company publishes neither a founding date nor a headcount.
