Magnific remains one of the strongest tools for detail-inventing upscales — anime line art, old 3D renders and rough AI output come out looking intentional rather than just bigger — and Precision mode answers photographers who were burned by earlier versions hallucinating faces and textures. Since Freepik renamed its whole platform Magnific in April 2026, the upscaler is sold inside a suite with more than 15 image and 12 video models and a stock library, starting at $20 a month, with a free plan for light personal use. That is good value if you want the suite; unnecessary bulk if you only upscale, and 10K outputs need Premium+ at $45. Credits now last a year rather than resetting monthly. Trustpilot reviews, now merged with Freepik's, average 4.0, with complaints about credits and billing. Worth it for creative upscaling at volume; skip it if you only need faithful restoration.

Magnific made its name as a generative upscaler: rather than just sharpening pixels, it enlarges images up to 16 times while inventing plausible texture and detail, guided by a prompt and sliders for how much it may "hallucinate". Javi Lopez and Emilio Nicolás launched it in 2023, and Freepik bought it in May 2024. In April 2026 Freepik went further and renamed its whole company and platform Magnific, saying it had reached $230 million in annual recurring revenue and more than a million paying subscribers. The old magnific.ai address now redirects to magnific.com, where the upscaler sits beside image, video and audio generators and Freepik's stock library; existing magnific.ai accounts continue on a legacy page.
The upscaler offers Creative, Classic and Precision modes — the last for faithful enlargement without invented faces or textures — along with a skin enhancer and a video upscaler up to 4K. Outputs up to 10K resolution are limited to Premium+ and above. API, MCP and ComfyUI access come with every paid plan, and Magnific says it does not train models on your data.
Plans now cover the whole platform. A free plan allows up to 20 image generations a day with Magnific's in-house model, for personal use with attribution. Premium costs $20 a month for 240,000 credits a year, Premium+ $45 for 600,000 with the Topaz upscaler and music rights, and Pro Starter $110 for 1.5 million, with about a quarter off for annual billing; a larger Pro plan with four million credits and a Business plan priced per seat were shown to us only in Singapore dollars. Credits last a year rather than resetting monthly. Legal indemnification for AI output is offered on Business and Enterprise plans only. Prices exclude VAT, with a 30-day refund guarantee.
