Overview
Jules is Google's asynchronous coding agent. Given a task or a GitHub issue, it clones the repository into a cloud VM, drafts a plan, makes multi-file changes and opens a pull request, running on Gemini models. It has been generally available since August 2025, with a free plan of 15 tasks a day and higher limits bundled into Google AI Pro and Ultra.

Jules suits well-scoped chores you would rather hand off than watch: bug fixes, dependency bumps, tests and small refactors, delivered as a pull request after you approve its plan. Scheduled tasks, CI auto-fixes, a CLI and an API make it more than a chat box, and the free plan of 15 tasks a day is enough to judge it.
The limits are real. Paid tiers come only through Google AI subscriptions for personal accounts, the changelog has been quiet since March 2026, and every autonomous pull request still needs a careful human review. Worth it for people already on Google AI Pro; others should compare it with interactive coding tools first.
What we found
Jules is Google's asynchronous coding agent. Google previewed it in December 2024, opened a public beta on 19 May 2025 and took it out of beta on 6 August 2025, when the changelog said it had passed 140,000 public commits and introduced paid limits. The model is delegation rather than pair programming: pick a GitHub repository and branch, describe a task or label an issue "jules", and Jules clones the repo into a cloud VM, proposes a plan for approval, edits the files and opens a pull request.
Since general availability the changelog has added memory, environment variables, a command-line tool and a REST API (all October 2025), scheduled and suggested tasks (December 2025), MCP connections (February 2026) and automatic fixes for failing CI checks. On 30 January 2026 Gemini 3 Flash became the base model on every tier, and on 9 March 2026 Gemini 3.1 Pro became the default for Google AI Pro subscribers. That March entry is still the latest in the changelog as of 14 October 2026, while the homepage and limits page still describe the free plan as running Gemini 2.5 Pro, so Google's own pages disagree on the models.
Jules is not sold on its own. The free plan allows 15 tasks in a rolling 24 hours, three at a time. Google AI Pro raises that to 100 tasks with 15 concurrent; Google AI Ultra to 300 and 60. Shown to a Singapore visitor, Pro costs S$28.99 a month and Ultra starts at S$139.99, with a larger S$289.98 Ultra tier whose Jules limits are not listed separately. Paid Jules limits currently apply only to personal Google accounts, not Workspace, and users must be 18 or over.
Pull requests from any autonomous agent still need careful review, and the daily task cap limits how much work can be handed off. For people already paying for Google AI, it is a useful extra rather than a separate purchase.
