AI Studio is still the fastest way to poke at Gemini without writing a line of code — test prompts, feed in images or video, tune system instructions, then export working code and an API key. It's genuinely free with no credit card and no time limit on the console itself, and Gemini 3.5 Flash landed there free (with rate limits) at Google I/O in May 2026.
