Ellipsis has grown from a pull-request reviewer into a platform for running coding agents in the cloud, governed like code: YAML configs reviewed by pull request, sandbox-per-session isolation, scoped short-lived credentials, transcripts and hard spend caps. Usage-based pricing with no seat fees, and the option to run inside your own AWS account, suit security-minded teams.
It is more platform than a team wanting a drop-in review bot needs, and the published performance figures are the company's own. A credible choice for teams standardising how agents run across repositories.
What we found
Ellipsis is still operating, but it is no longer the product most write-ups describe. Ellipsis AI Inc., a New York company that went through Y Combinator's Winter 2024 batch, started in 2023 as an AI reviewer that commented on pull requests, fixed bugs and enforced style guides. It raised a $2 million seed round in June 2024, added GitLab that September, and says it is installed on more than 67,000 repositories across 400-plus companies. Earlier versions of this page named the wrong founders and called it GitHub-only; Y Combinator lists Hunter Brooks as founder and chief executive.
In July 2026 the company relaunched as the Ellipsis Agent Cloud, a platform for running coding agents in the cloud. Each agent is a YAML file in your repository that sets its model, prompt, triggers, permissions and budget, so changing an agent is a pull request. Sessions start from a cron schedule, a GitHub, Linear or Sentry event, a Slack mention, the CLI or a REST API, and each runs in its own sandbox with credentials scoped to the repositories it is allowed to touch. Code review is now one use case among several, alongside background jobs, migrations and bug fixes from alerts.
Pricing changed with it. The old $20 per developer plan has gone. You pay model tokens at cost plus a 10% platform fee, and CPU and memory by the second, with no seat fees, either on Ellipsis's cloud or inside your own AWS account. Individuals can run interactive sessions on an existing Claude Code or Codex subscription, and open-source maintainers can ask for free usage. Optional support packages cost $5,000 to $15,000 a month.
Ellipsis holds SOC 2 Type 1, with Type 2 in progress. The merge-speed figures it publishes are its own data. It suits teams that want agents governed like code; teams wanting a simple review bot may find it more platform than they need.
