Diligent Robotics makes Moxi, a mobile robot with an arm and locking drawers that carries lab samples, medications and supplies around US hospitals so nurses can stay on the floor. Since January 2026 it has been a subsidiary of Serve Robotics, and Moxi 2.0 began rolling out in August 2026. It is one of the larger real hospital deployments of a mobile manipulator.
The record is uneven: MultiCare in Washington State dropped its 14 robots over cost and low use, while other systems publicise thousands of deliveries. Moxi is offered only as a service, priced per hospital through sales, and every publicised site is in the US, so for ASEAN readers it is a category to watch rather than something to procure.

Diligent Robotics, the Austin company co-founded by roboticists Andrea Thomaz and Vivian Chu, makes Moxi, a mobile robot with an arm and locking drawers that runs non-patient-facing errands in hospitals: lab samples, medications, supplies and protective equipment. It is now a subsidiary of Serve Robotics, the Nasdaq-listed sidewalk-delivery firm. Serve's 8-K filing records the deal closing on 27 January 2026, with stock consideration valued at $29.0 million including a possible $5.3 million earnout, plus about $19.0 million in cash to cover Diligent's debt. Earlier versions of this page described the deal as pending. Andrea Thomaz still leads the business, and in August 2026 it began rolling out Moxi 2.0, which it says has ten times the onboard compute.
Moxi is not sold. Diligent's FAQ says the robots are offered as a service, and Serve told investors it expects annual sales of $200,000 to $400,000 per hospital. At the time of the deal Serve counted nearly 100 robots in more than 25 US hospital facilities and 1.25 million deliveries. Diligent's own case study reports 7,298 deliveries and 4,125 staff hours returned at Edward Hospital over seven months in 2022 and 2023.
Independent evidence is mixed. In a study of Texas trials supported by the American Nurses Association, reported by Wired in 2022, most nurses surveyed said Moxi saved them energy, while some said it struggled in cramped halls during the morning rush. The sharpest counterpoint is MultiCare in Washington State, which dropped its 14 robots, saying cost did not match usage; nurses there told their union the robots got in the way and needed escorting between floors. Proof News contacted 14 hospitals that had deployed Moxi for a June 2026 report; five confirmed they still use it and the rest did not reply.
Moxi suits large US hospitals with steady delivery volume. There is no self-serve product or published price, and every deployment it publicises is in the US.
