Bits AI is Datadog's suite of AI agents: Bits Investigation (formerly Bits AI SRE) investigates alerts and finds root causes, Bits Code proposes fixes, Bits Chat answers questions about telemetry, and Bits Agent Builder creates custom agents. They are billed separately from core Datadog products in metered AI Credits.

Bits AI's advantage is access: the agents work directly on the metrics, logs, traces, code and changes already in Datadog, so Bits Investigation can start on an alert the moment it fires and show every step it took. Published per-use averages, about 6.5 credits for an investigation, make costs easier to estimate than most agent pricing.
It is still a metered add-on, enabled by default for standard users, so admins should set credit limits before rollout. The speed claims are Datadog's own. Good value for teams already on Datadog; no reason to adopt Datadog for it alone.
What we found
Bits AI is Datadog's family of AI agents, built into the Datadog monitoring and security platform. Datadog announced Bits as a generative-AI assistant at its DASH conference in August 2023. At DASH in June 2025 it unveiled Bits AI SRE, an on-call agent, in limited availability, and on 2 December 2025 made it generally available, calling it Datadog's first generally available AI agent. That agent is now called Bits Investigation: when an alert fires it reads runbooks and telemetry, tests hypotheses about the root cause and posts a conclusion to tools such as Slack, Jira, ServiceNow or GitHub. A March 2026 update added a new agent harness, wider data access including source code, an Agent Trace view of each step and human-in-the-loop triage actions from chat.
Datadog's documentation now lists Bits Investigation, Bits Code for fixes, Bits Security Analyst for Cloud SIEM triage, Bits Chat for natural-language questions, Bits Data Analysis, Bits Detection and Bits Remediation, and the pricing page adds Bits Agent Builder for custom agents. Earlier versions of this page listed a Bits Release module, which the current documentation does not.
Pricing is the clearest change. Datadog's archived March 2026 pricing page charged $500 a month per 20 investigations on an annual plan. Today the agents draw on AI Credits: $500 a month per 500-credit bundle on an annual commitment, $600 month to month, or $1.30 per credit on demand. Datadog's reference averages are about 6.5 credits per autonomous investigation, 5 per code fix and 0.5 per chat message. Credits reset monthly without rollover, overage bills at the on-demand rate, the products are switched on by default for the Standard role, and FedRAMP customers cannot use them.
Performance figures are vendor material: the product page claims services restored 90% faster, and an iFood engineer quoted there credits Bits with a 70% cut in time to repair. It only makes sense for teams whose telemetry already lives in Datadog.
